June 27, 2008: Attendance at 24 Sussex for the Prime Minister's Annual Garden Party. This was a great opportunity to chat with other Conservatives from across the country to compare notes, strategies and ideas!

June 25, 2008: Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce Luncheon with Annette Vershuren where we heard about the exciting environmental partnership initiatives of Home Depot, Ms. Vershuren and Cape Breton University.

June 24, 2008: Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce Photo Shoot, a gathering of Sydney Business people to use in material to promote our area.

June 20-22, 2008: Attendance and volunteering at the Royal Cape Breton Yacht Club's Annual Regatta, the waterfront was an exciting flurry of activity!

June 19, 2008: Attendance at the Sampson McDougall reception for Leader of the Opposition, Darrel Dexter, a great bi-partisan event!

June 17, 2008: Chamber of Commerce Luncheon with Nova Scotia Minister
of Heath, Chris D'Entremont. Comprehensive discussion of the Province's
health plan strategy, "Transforming Health: Building Our Readiness"

June 16, 2008: Start of the Clipper '07-'08 Round the World Race to
Cork, Ireland.

June 14, 2008; Awarding of the Democracy 250 Cup to Hull & Humber,
winner of the Clipper '07-'08 Round the World Race leg from Halifax to
Sydney.

June 13, 2008: Cape Breton Part ship Luncheon with special guests, Dan
Christmas and Danny Graham on Sustainable Mi'kmaq communities in Nova
Scotia

June 12, 2008: Board Meeting of the Royal Cape Breton Yacht Club

June 09, 2008: Board Meeting of the Whitney Pier Youth Club

June 06, 2008: Canadian Mental Health Annual Art Auction, where we
raised over $15,000 for a great cause!

May 31, 2008: Volunteering at the Sydney Waterfront to put in the
wharves for the Junior Sailing Program. This program will be an
essential contribution to providing services for at-risk youth.

May 31, 2008: Victoria-the-Lakes Annual Auction. A great social event
for Tories to get together and raise some money for the war chest.

May 29, 2008: First Annual Women in Business Awards - the first annual
Women in Business Awards celebration. This event is in conjunction with
the Women in Business Conference & Awards Dinner program. We toasted our
successful women entrepreneurs.

May 28, 2008: Hadassah Wizo Bazaar Annual Auction

May 27, 2008: Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Evening. We honoured
some great contributors and innovators in the local economy.

May 24, 2008: Cape Breton Farmer's Market

May 22, 2008: Kiwanis Luncheon Meet & Greet. We heard an impressive
presentation on the work of the Harbourview Montessori School.

May 17, 2008: Cape Breton Farmer's Market

May 15-16, 2008: Attendance at the Annual Ports Day Celebrations. A
major announcement was made regarding international funding of the
future container terminal in Sydney.

May 14, 2008: Appreciation Breakfast for Real Estate Professionals

May 12: Annual Opening of Pierscape, where our local talent's great
artistic abilities is showcased.

April 18, 2008: Leadership Prayer Breakfast. We heard the moving tale of
the last survivor to be rescued form the Twin Towers, before they
collapsed.

April 16, 2008: Gateway to Progress with Frank McKenna -TD Bank
Financial Group, the Cape Breton University Alumni Association and the
Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce presented Frank McKenna as their
special guest speaker. His inspirational address focused on content that
speaks to the 'Gateway to Progress".

Tom Vickers my Campaign Manager, and I are at the Eagles playoff game on March 31, 2008. Eagles are looking for their last win against the Maineacs.

I attended the Annual General Meeting, held February 21, 2008.

Chamber of Commerce Luncheon
The Chamber hosted a packed event with special guest speaker, Minister Diane Finley. The Minister addressed immigration issues in the Atlantic provinces and the potential for Sydney Harbour to become a world class container port.

Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, the Honourable Diane Finley

I was able to host a reception with the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, the Honourable Diane Finley at the Delta Hotel on February 18, 2008, during which time she was able to meet with parties interested in regional economic development and the Atlantic Gateway.

Mardi-Gras Auction and Dance
On February 15, we attended this event in support of the YMCA.

CB West Annual General Meeting
Hosted by the Honourable Alfie MacLeod, Speaker of the Nova Scotia Legislature, and the honourable Murray Scott, Minister of Transportation and Military Relations addressed guests on Cape Breton road paving priorities and the important role that our soldiers are playing in Afghanistan.

Monthly board meeting, held on February 11, for the Sydney Victoria EDA.

NS Progressive Conservative AGM

February 7 to 9th. Team Rudderham sent a large contingency to Halifax to participate in the provincial Progressive Conservative Annual General Meeting. We co-hosted a "cracking" hospitality suite both evenings. We left attendees with popular "Let's Get Cracking" bottles of water that were a hot commodity. A good time was had by all! (Except the part where we had to drive through a snow storm to get home!

Cape Breton University Rally in Support of B.Ed Program
An enthusiastic, high-energy call-to-arms featuring the Tom Fun Family Orchestra was held on February 1, 2008. I was happy to be able to lend my support to a great cause.

Cape Breton University Varsity Athletics Charity Action
I took part in this charity fundraiser in support of Cape Breton University's sports teams.

Fundraising Diner at the Gowrie House
On January 30, 2007 I attended an event at the Gowrie house in Sydney Mines, a collegial social event in support of the Minister of Justice, the Honourable Cecil Clarke.

Cape Breton Law Society Meeting
I was in attendance with other members of the local Cape Breton Bar meet to discuss issues of importance to the Legal Profession and the community in general.

JCI Strategic Planning Session
Held at the Cambridge Suites in Sydney, JCI Cape Breton invited members to participate in a strategic planning session that will determine the long-term vision for JCI.

New Years Levee
The Speaker of the Nova Scotia Legislature held his annual New Years Levee on January 20, 2007. We celebrated another successful year for the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative party and the province of Nova Scotia.

Sydney Ports Launch
I attended the Sydney Launch Event at the Joan Harris Cruise Pavillion on January 14, 2008. In attendance were local business interest and stakeholders who are interested in making Sydney an integral component of the Atlantic Gateway.

Deputy Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, Elsie Wayne
I was very pleased to host former Deputy Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, Elsie Wayne, in August, 2007 for an event that was very well attended at the Martin Arms Hotel (formerly the Meridian).

Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, the Honourable Loyola Hearn
I was happy to co-host Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, the Honourable Loyola Hearn in the spring of 2007 in Sydney Mines. Minster Hearn carries a portfolio that is of obvious importance to Cape Breton and I was delighted to introduce him to stakeholders and discuss current fisheries priorities for Cape Breton with him.

Remembrance Day, 2007
I had the honour to take part in ceremonies in Sydney at Memorial High School. I was also asked to lay the wreath at the Orangemens Memorial and in Middle River on behalf of the Conservative Party of Canada.

Chamber of Commerce Luncheon
Premier Rodney MacDonald held a luncheon to answer questions about the new Atlantic Accord. I attended along with many local residents and was pleased to see the results when Conservative governments work together.

Riding Tour
In November 10, 2007 I took part in a tour of the Sydney-Victoria riding, visiting the communities of north Sydney, Florence, Big Bras d'Or, St. Anns, Englishtown, Wreck Cove, Ingonish, Neil's Harbour, Dingwall, and Baddeck.
